I was one of the lucky few selected to participate in a documentary workshop over the next few days.
Today was the first day of the course and it was incredibly informative.
Since we were going to be looking at the production of documentary films, we had an important question to answer.
What is a documentary?
A documentary is a film that is made with the intention of documenting some aspect of reality. Whether it is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ doesn’t matter, it is the filmmaker expressing their thoughts on the world around us. Documentaries are produced to entertain, inform and educate audiences about real issues, events and situations. They give people the power to influence the perception of others, often the filmmaker exhibits an unusual, interesting or unknown angle.
One of the most important elements of a documentary is passion, this is because if you’re not passionate about a subject, no one else will be.
